WXPN PUBLIC RADIO, 2020
As a massive music lover and the promotion of music, I spent the summer of 2020 working as a graphic design intern for WXPN Public Radio in Philadelphia. Throughout my time spent there, I had the privilege of learning extensively about the radio and music industries while also being able to promote their Xponential Music Festival and membership merchandise for the years 2020 and 2021. This gave me the opportunity to work with their brand guides while also having my own artistic spin and freedoms when creating.
XPONENTIAL MUSIC FESTIVAL. The first big project that I worked on was creating promotion for their Xponential Music Festival – which included posters, social media posts, and a t-shirt design that was sold throughout the summer prior to the event. To start the design process, I decided that I wanted to fuse the general aesthetic of the music festival while touching on the pandemic and remote theme aspects. Through various trials and shapes forming the bright-colored designs, I developed a final shape that was then placed on a dark grey shirt, emphasizing the bright color palette. These same patterns and design aesthetic was used for promotional posters, Instagram posts, and Facebook posts that were also shared on their website.
WXPN MEMBERSHIP MERCHANDISE. I was given the opportunity to create a simple yet effective design for WXPN’s membership merch. I was asked to create a design that spoke generally about music during a trying time but was able to effortlessly include their logo beneath. During a period of time where Philadelphia was at its peak state of isolation and distance, the phrase “Music Keeps us Connected” is meant to be a reminder for people about the power of music and how radio and music can help to bridge the physical gap between people.
